how many times can a official referee an nfl team per game?

Reply

KMG 365 December 17, 2008 at 5:54 pm

Larry, I think you meant per season. NFL Officials can work at most two games per season for each team. This does not include the playoffs, of course.

Terry McAulay will be the referee for the Bills/Broncos game.

What’s a good source for finding who is referring a game. I’ve looked on the local Seahawks (my home team) site, but it’s next to useless, other ideas?

Fantastic site, I’ve been quite the hit at home games lately with info on “The Stripes”.

Hey, I notice you always have a few refs names slotted prior to gametime (sometimes days in advance) and i was just wondering why i never see Jerome Boger listed early. Just wondering why his location is always a mystery. My buddies and i love to watch his games.

Walt Anderson will be the referee for tonight’s Colts/Jags game.

Also, Jeff “faceplant” Triplette will work the Dolphins/Chiefs game.

“What’s a good source for finding who is referring a game.”

This site is.

“doe anybody know in advance who will be assigned to the dallas-philly game on week 17?”

I don’t who it will be yet. However, I can tell you who won’t be the ref. The refs who will not work that came are Riveron, Hochuli, Parry, Carey, Anderson, Carollo, Steratore, and McAulay. That leaves nine possible refs for Dal/Phi.

I’m thinking it will be Corrente, but Green and Cheffers are good possibilities, too. Leavy, Triplette, Boger, Morelli, Winter and Coleman are less likely, but you never know.

Pete Morelli referee for Chargers@Buccaneers

Eric December 18, 2008 at 8:43 pm

I spoke with Walt Coleman the other day. He’s got the Giants/Panthers this week, and he’s off next week.

Moderator, please update the site…Walt Anderson refereed the IND @ JAC game, OK?

thanks for the information. why not riveron, steratore and mcaulay all have only officiated one game for dallas and that was against the stealers and the first iggles and the bucs. i think u could be right regarding boger as a possibility, the others (morrelli, triplett, leavy), have already officiated 2 games with the cowboys.

“why not riveron, steratore and mcaulay”

McAulay has already worked two Philly games. Besides, one of them was the Phi@Dal game. It’s doubtful the NFL would assign the same ref for the same divisional game.

Riveron worked a Philly game in week 14 and Steratore worked a Dallas game in week 14. I don’t know how many weeks refs must wait until working the same team, but four weeks is the shortest timeframe this year. Ron Winter worked the same team four weeks apart, so that’s the baseline I am using. Since week 17 is only a difference of three weeks from week 14, I am ruling out Riveron and Steratore to officiate that game.

Corrente, Green and Cheffers have yet to officiate a Philly or Dallas game, so those three are most likely to be the ref, although the other refs I listed could possibly work the game.

Shane Spencer December 19, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Last year, Scott Green was the referee for the DAL @ PHI game.

Does anyone know how officials are assigned to games? Do they have regional assignments, or certain team assignments, or random assignment anywhere in the country?
