NFL: Week 6 referee assignments

by mickey on October 12, 2009

Week 5 isn’t quite over yet, and we’re already posting some refs for week 6 (like Gene Steratore in New England).  If you know more, please tell us in the comments.  Thanks!

I have been following and recording referee assignments for years, and I am almost certain that Walt Coleman has not done a Raiders game since the “tuck game.” He certainly hasn’t been in Oakland, and I don’t think he has done the Raiders on the road either.

Thanks for your reponse Barry. I have been following and recording referee assignments for years as well and I don’t think Ron Winter has ever done a game in Dallas. And both Jeff Triplette and Walt Anderson have never done a game in Houston to my knowledge. Anderson never did a game in Minnesota either. Also , Bill Leavy has never done a game in Buffalo, Washington and the Giants

I am surprised Scott Green is doing the monday night game being that he did the Buffalo New England monday nighter. The NFL over past years has always seem to give the each crew a chance each to do the sunday and monday night games

Frank, I agree with your comments about officials never working at a site for the regular season. However, Ron Winter did a preseason game at Dallas in 2005, and Walt Anderson has done preseason games at Houston in 2005 and 2007. One reason Anderson might not work a regular season game in Houston is that he lives in a Houston suburb.

I am also surprised, Frank, if Scott Green is doing another Monday night game, since in recent years each referee (there are 17) has done one Monday night game (there are 17). The same does not always hold for Sunday, however, partly because of the flex schedule that changes the Sunday night games. I believe the officials are assigned before these games change.

Here’s a theory. The officials for the two Monday night games in Week 1 (Carl Cheffers and Scott Green) wore the old AFL officials’ uniforms, since these were games between original AFL teams. Carl Cheffers wore the old uniform and officiated last week’s New England-Denver game. The Monday night game this week is Denver at San Diego, both original AFL teams. Scott Green’s crew already has the uniforms.

I am surprised Green is working this game. His whole crew is listed but I have a feeling he is filling in for someones crew.

That is a very interesting observation Barry about Cheffers and Green. That could very well be the case

Speaking of Tony Corrente, I believe the only place he has never officiated is for a Jets home game according to my records

Barry I have been following referee assigments for years too. I began following the officails some time in the 80s or 90s. I would write down which referee officated which game so I could discern wich referee would be at twhich gme.

Jan, I have been following referee assignments since the 90s myself. I would make a grid by having a column for their names and then 17 columns across from their names representing each week. I would fill in the game for that week that they officiated or leave it blank if they had a bye week

i became interested in the Referees in the late 70s when LOs Angles Rams quaterbck Pat Hden was pummaled to the gound in a gameagaint the Chargers.Thereferee was Bob Fredricks. He acted as if there was no personal Foul. I was so upset that I wrote Pete Rozelle. He sent mea nice letter. Several years laterI would write and askfort the yearly list ofthe officals.
