I would wager that a large percentage of the readers and posters here, do not understand or appreciate all of the time dedicated to this sport by the officials that goes untold. We had amateur coaches officiate a ball game ( baseball) only 1 restriction; they could not eject the officials coaching the game. All came away with a better understanding of the game.

RP & Don - Not to step on Mike, but methinks you don't quite get this blog... No one is saying that Mr. Hochuli is a bad guy or a bad referee (or at least I don't interpret anyone saying that), we're simply discussing the merits of a particular call, in much the same way some would discuss the merits of going for it on 4th and short in your own end with time expiring...

In addition to coming here to find out who's working what game, it's one of the things like about this blog - Discussing calls. There are current and former officials (myself included) and it's interesting to see their perspective.

Remember - It's not personal, it's just business.

Definitely a blown call, and probably not within the jurisdiction of the replay official, although I don't think anyone would have complained had he buzzed the field. A 59-yarder is pretty much impossible, and 54-yards is bloody unlikely. Fortunately it didn't affect the outcome of the game. Still, if it had, then the Ravens and Steelers would be even: Last year Walt Coleman gave the Steelers a gift in Baltimore on a blown reversal...
