With the regulars any crew can be assigned to any game (with the replacements the NFL tried to assign the “best” crews to the most important games each week) though they will try to not have a rookie Referee working in primetime until he gets his feet wet. That being said, certain games where the NFL knows there is going to be tension they will try to assign a crew that does a better job keeping a lid on things (which is why you will not often see Jerome Boger or Jeff Triplette getting a lot of competitive rivalry games). The other considerations are during the regular season a crew will not be assigned to a team more than twice and if assigned twice it will only be at least 5 weeks later (so a crew working a team in Week 4 won’t see the same team before Week 9) and also the NFL tries to make sure that if a crew officiates the same team twice that both are not home games for that team. Either by choice or intentionally certain crews will not work certain teams. Walt Coleman has not officiated an Oakland Raiders game since the “tuck rule” game. Buddy Horton, FJ on Clete Blakeman’s crew, cannot officiate an Arizona Cardinals game because his brother, Ray Horton is on the coaching staff. When David Boston was in the NFL, his father, LJ Byron Boston, could not work his games. Sometimes it is a matter of choice to avoid the appearance of impropriety. Jeff Triplette, when he was working for a company in Charlotte, asked not to be assigned any Carolina Panthers games.

When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added”
checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get three e-mails with
the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service?

    Thank you!
